Try a campout where you never even leave the house.
Gather your supplies: Materials can include twinkle lights, lanterns, tapestries, sheets, pillows, clothespins, rubber bands, poles, old boxes, and any other materials around the house. Use the couch, a table and chairs for a base. Don’t forget books, games, snacks and the fun stuff you will want to put inside of it. Make room for fun and a place to unplug during National Day of Unplugging.
Inside Forts: Build a fort with big boxes or the living room furniture. Challenge a group of friends to a fort building challenge. Check out Hello Wonderful’s many fort options, or Wiki or create one with PVC piping. If you have very young children you may need to do a lot of the set up and work. As they get older, let them take the lead. You just provide the supplies, they provide the problem solving and creativity!
Nature Forts: Create a space outside if the weather permits. Make a teepee with poles, branches or other natural materials. See if someone has old palm fronds that need trimming that you can use. Get outdoor blankets or a tarp for the ground. Getting “one with nature” has so many benefits for all of us!
Adults Forts: Forts are not just for kids. Have a date night in a boho style fort or teepee. Grab a mandala tapestry, lacy table cloths, and lights. Add some wine, cheese, board games and comfy pillows and you have a romantic night to remember. You may never want to take it down.
